Position Overview:

The General Developer is responsible for supporting Nomad Internet’s internal systems, integrations, automation tools, and backend logic that power customer workflows, reporting infrastructure, and operational efficiency. This role works closely with the IT Director to develop, maintain, and optimize the tools that connect core platforms such as Shopify, CRM, billing systems, returns tools, and chat platforms. The General Developer plays a key role in ensuring technical scalability, process automation, and secure data flows between platforms. This is a hands-on technical role requiring excellent backend skills, clean documentation practices, and the ability to solve system-wide friction points quickly.

1. System Integration & Automation

  • Build and maintain custom scripts and backend processes to automate workflows

  • Connect platforms through APIs and webhooks (e.g., Shopify, HubSpot, ShipStation, ReturnLogic)

  • Ensure clean data transfer and secure communication between systems

  • Monitor sync failures and escalate integration issues immediately

  • Collaborate with department leads to scope new automation opportunities

2. Internal Tool Development

  • Develop and maintain custom dashboards for reporting, operations, and billing visibility

  • Support internal forms, data views, and light web apps used by Sales, Support, and Fulfillment

  • Ensure all internal tools are responsive, secure, and easy to update

  • Identify manual work that can be replaced by code and deliver lightweight, scalable solutions

3. Backend Development & Process Optimization

  • Write clean, reusable code in Python, Node.js, or relevant backend language

  • Optimize backend logic for processing efficiency and system reliability

  • Manage error handling, exception routing, and system logging for all custom functions

  • Perform regular maintenance checks and address known bugs across scripts and services

  • Maintain API documentation for all system endpoints and functions

4. Deployment, Testing & Technical Documentation

  • Use Git (or equivalent version control) for all code commits and deployments

  • Maintain staging environments and rollback-ready production standards

  • Document every service integration, endpoint, and scheduled task

  • Write basic test coverage to validate input/output and ensure stability after updates

Key Objectives & Results (OKRs):

Objective 1: Stabilize and Monitor Key System Integrations

  • Ensure 100% uptime on critical data sync tasks (Shopify to CRM, Shipping to Returns, etc.)

  • Identify and resolve all open sync issues within first 30 days

  • Submit weekly integration status summary to IT Director

Objective 2: Automate High-Friction Internal Workflows

  • Identify top 5 manual workflows per department by Week 3

  • Deploy at least 3 automation tools or scripts to replace manual tasks by Day 45

  • Submit ROI report on time saved per task automated

Objective 3: Maintain Clean, Documented Codebase

  • Achieve 100% documentation on active services and internal tools

  • Ensure all changes are committed with proper version control and rollback access

  • Submit updated technical documentation weekly

Objective 4: Support Scalable Internal Infrastructure

  • Launch custom internal dashboard or admin portal by Week 6

  • Maintain data processing tasks under 1-second execution time on key services

  • Keep error rate on backend services below 1%

Position Requirements:

  • Must develop and maintain backend scripts, integrations, and internal tools

  • Must ensure data accuracy, process automation, and system stability

  • Must operate under a structured deployment process with proper testing and documentation

  • Must work full-time during U.S. business hours and respond to integration issues in real time

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years in backend or full-stack development

  • Proficient in Python, JavaScript (Node.js), or a comparable backend framework

  • Experience working with RESTful APIs, webhooks, and third-party integration platforms

  • Strong understanding of JSON, data mapping, and sync integrity

  • Familiar with Shopify API, CRM tools (HubSpot), shipping/billing platforms, and database queries

  • Disciplined in Git workflows, secure coding practices, and error handling

  • Excellent documentation habits and clear communication with non-technical stakeholders
