Position Overview:

The Shopify Developer is responsible for building, maintaining, and optimizing Nomad Internet’s Shopify storefront and integrated e-commerce systems. This role owns the front-end and back-end development of the company’s online store, ensuring seamless user experience, site speed, mobile responsiveness, and high-converting functionality. The Shopify Developer is expected to manage theme customization, Liquid coding, third-party app integrations, and any CRO-driven design changes requested by leadership. This role reports directly to the IT Director and collaborates cross-functionally with Marketing, Design, and CRO teams.


1. Front-End Shopify Development

  • Customize and maintain Shopify themes using Liquid, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

  • Ensure responsive performance across all devices (desktop, tablet, mobile)

  • Implement CRO-driven content updates, design refinements, and layout adjustments

  • Support new page builds, offer placements, and banner updates

  • Conduct ongoing QA for visual and UX consistency sitewide


2. Back-End Integration & App Management

  • Configure and manage key Shopify apps including:

    • Subscription billing

    • Shipping integrations

    • Returns automation

    • Email and upsell systems

  • Troubleshoot third-party tool issues and maintain clean data transfer across platforms

  • Write or edit API connections as needed to link Shopify to internal systems (CRM, billing, etc.)

  • Monitor app conflicts or performance slowdowns and proactively escalate


3. CRO Implementation & Page Speed Optimization

  • Implement A/B test variations, split-test-ready layouts, and tracked call-to-actions

  • Optimize site for page load speed, including asset compression and code clean-up

  • Use Google Lighthouse, GTmetrix, or similar tools to audit performance weekly

  • Maintain WCAG accessibility compliance and ensure code does not interfere with SEO or UX


4. Technical Documentation & Deployment Standards

  • Maintain full documentation of all theme edits, code changes, and system configurations

  • Use Git or approved version control system for staging and deployment

  • Coordinate releases with IT Director to avoid downtime or service interruptions

  • Flag high-risk updates and provide rollback paths for all production pushes


Key Objectives & Results (OKRs):

Objective 1: Maintain Fast, Error-Free Shopify Storefront

  • Maintain >99.9% site uptime

  • Keep mobile page load speed under 2.5 seconds

  • Resolve all reported site bugs within 48 hours

Objective 2: Execute CRO and Marketing Requests Rapidly

  • Implement approved landing page or theme changes within 24–48 hours

  • Ensure all CRO test variants are deployed with tracking and QA

  • Maintain backlog under 5 outstanding non-blocker tasks at all times

Objective 3: Ensure Stability and Data Integrity Across Systems

  • Keep all third-party apps updated and functional

  • Flag and resolve integration issues within 24 hours

  • Ensure no broken flows from product to checkout or customer email confirmation

Objective 4: Document and Deploy Changes Correctly

  • Maintain 100% documentation of theme files and custom scripts

  • Follow approved deployment workflow for all site changes

  • Never push untested code to production


Position Requirements:

  • Must build and maintain custom Shopify themes and scripts

  • Must execute CRO, design, and technical requests with high accuracy

  • Must maintain uptime, speed, and seamless shopping experience

  • Must be available during U.S. business hours and capable of resolving urgent issues


Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years in front-end and back-end Shopify development

  • Strong command of Liquid, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, JSON, and AJAX

  • Familiar with third-party Shopify app integrations and private API work

  • Experience building and optimizing high-volume Shopify Plus storefronts preferred

  • Detail-oriented, process-driven, and capable of testing before pushing live

  • Strong communicator and collaborator with non-technical teams
